The objective of this study is the evaluation of the operation of two reactors by sequential batches (SBR), the first using suspended biomass and the second using granular biomass, both for the elimination of organic matter and nitrogen from the effluent of the same tannery. To evaluate the operation of both reactors in the removal of organic matter and nutrients in the effluent, the following stages were carried out: a) information collection, b) data processing and c) obtaining results. It is concluded that the rate of removal of COD in an SBR for cycle lengths of 6, 12 and 24 hours using biomass suspended under aerobic conditions was smaller than the rate of removal of the granular biomass. The NH4 + -N is removed with an efficiency varying between 90 and 97% for a cycle time of 12 hours achieving the total removal of NH4+ -N for cycle times estimated between 12.39 and 13.25 hours.
