RESEARCH ARTICLES

In the present work is described the development and characterization of 4 prototypes of solar distillers: (1) the first one is based on traditional designs that it is of hut, (2) the second it was built adding this a fan of 2.6 W to force flow of the vapor, (3) the third were added a heat sink of aluminum in the wall contrary to the fan, to increase the condensation of vapor and (4) a metallic wall of aluminum was also used for improve the condensation process. The distillers have an area of 0.23m2. It was defined an energetic performance to characterize them, as the number of liters of distilled water by unit of given energy. The prototype with fan, of forced convection without heat sink, got an energetic performance 1.54 times higher than that of the simple distiller, of natural convection. When a heat sink or aluminum wall is added, energetic performance is 1.94 times of the simple distiller. They are also shown typical figures of some operation parameters like temperature of the water, irradiance and temperature of the glass, in function of the time for a clear day.
