ABSTRACT:
Bone grafts are an excellent option in traditional medicine for repair and/or regeneration of bone defects, this provides mechanical stability and restore the musculoskeletal system when it has presented any kind of damage either by some pathology (congenital or acquired) or due to injuries. This research consisted in determining the correlations in the viscoelastic behavior of a porcine trabecular bone tissue from the distal femoral condyle before and after subjecting the tissue to a decellularization process. This process of decellularization was carried out using existing procedures in the literature for materials with clinical applications, obtaining a scaffold that can be used as a xenograft. A morphometric analysis was carried out in order to determine whether the material met the dimensional requirements for a xenograft and to be used in human patients. Subsequently nanoindentation tests were carried out, the objective was to evaluate the differences in the viscoelastic behavior before and after removing the organic matrix, therefore the stiffness coefficient, the hardness, the Young's modulus and the creep were considered. As a result of this, data were obtained under different load and unload rates through nanoindentation tests which allowed to evaluate the mechanical differences between both materials. In general, the results show that decellularization directly affects the viscoelastic properties of the material. However, the material obtained meets the mechanical requirements to be used as scaffold favoring osteoconduction.

Keywords: Xenograft, Viscoelasticity, Porcine trabecular bone.
