ABSTRACT:
A new algorithm is proposed to enhance the performance of the seaport operations. This study introduces a probability model based on the kernel smoothing technique to model the seaport operations. We use an estimation of distribution algorithm as a branch of the evolutionary computation. The algorithm mentioned is coupled with an event-discrete simulation model to validate the solution using C++ and R languages. The simulation model is easy to understand for any academic, engineer, manager and practitioner related to seaport operations. Practical and feasible scenarios, based on Hartmann (2004)’s research, serve as input and test parameters in order to show that the performance of seaport operations can be can be improved using the algorithm proposed.
