ABSTRACT
In this paper, a method of fault detection in a vane pump is presented by estimating the Hurst exponent, from the measurement of the vibrations of the system in operation. This analysis seeks to detect whether the behavior of the data is random or has underlying long memory trends that may indicate a correlation between the data and the dynamic nature of the system, whether stable or unstable. The results obtained showed that there is a clear correlation between the Hurst exponent and the dynamic response of the pump in stable and unstable conditions, so it is considered that the Hurst coefficient estimate allows to detect the failure in a hydraulic system in a timely manner.

Keywords: vane pump, Hurst, fractal dimension.
