ABSTRACT:
On premise was the main alternative when deploying enterprise applications, where software and hardware was installed on the organization's facilities. Recently Cloud Computing has created new possibilities when implementing business software, allowing installation on a remote infrastructure shared with other users.
However, the adoption rate for this new paradigm has not been as high as expected for a technology with such obvious cost advantages. When comparing the levels of adoption for different types of applications and verify that they are not homogeneous despite sharing the same cost advantages. Everything indicates that the criteria used by companies when adopting a cloud solution goes beyond a purely economic analysis. Therefore, Understanding the factors associated with the adoption of different application types can be useful for companies involved in strategic decisions related to information technologies. A tool to evaluate enterprise applications fit to the cloud environment can simplify the application selection process.
This paper presents a model for the evaluation of applications in a cloud environment, so that it can help firms to select and undertake those projects where such applications have a better fit. In addition to this, the model is used to evaluate an application category commonly used in the world of engineering, so that the companies using this kind of tools can get a closer look to the model and its possibilities.
